Quick Update: Bangkok Asiatique The Riverfront & Alex’s Fashion Tailors

The longest time this space has been abandoned, and we can’t be anymore embarrassed.

Excuses aside, here’s a quick update and tip for those who’ve plans to visit Bangkok.

Tip #1: Forget Asiatique The Riverfront!

This trip, we stayed at Grand Millennium Sukhumvit and the taxi fare down to Asiatique costs us 200baht(could have being 150 or even lesser but taxi driver threw us this deal halfway along the way).

The newest Bangkok Night Market which opened in May 2012 and boasts to have as many as 1500 small stores. Please don’t pin any hopes here if you are looking for some good fashion retail therapy. 1500 small stores is right, but what good is there when half of the 1500 stores are selling almost the same thing; mainly souvenirs and handicrafts. Quite a number of fancy restaurants but we didn’t try any so can’t provide any recommendations for that.

It’s still worth a look IF you have no other plans at night.

Tip #2: Tailor-make your shirts/suits at Alex’s Fashion Tailor!

There’s nothing more important than good workmanship, good quality and good service when one’s considering tailor-make shirts/suits overseas and this is what we got from Alex’s Fashion Tailor.

Slightly negotiable  prices was a nice bonus.

Located at Amari Watergate Hotel Level 2, opposite of Platinum Mall.

Bali in 4 Days 3 Nights

Not sure why but it seems that we are fated to go on 2 back to back trips every August. Literally right after our Perth trip, we made our way to Bali with our crazy gang.

After much consideration, we decided on Villa Penelopy in Seminyak Bali for our 3 nights stay. The 2-storey villa had a relaxing setting, modern with a touch of local architecture, complete with 3 bedrooms, 2 living areas, dining room and a full kitchen. The villa was very clean and spacious, and the pool was good at a non-children depth. Breakfast is served only if it is inclusive in your package, otherwise it’s USD7.

Munch @ JB: The Famous Kam Long Curry Fish Head and It’s Competitor

2013-06-22 14.08.27

Frequent visitors of JB most probably aren’t strangers to Kam Long Restaurant @ Jalan Wong Ah Fook, 2 streets away from City Square JB. We have been visiting them since quite some time back and they have been maintaining their food standards really well! The only sad thing is the size of the fish head has gotten smaller over time.

2013-06-22 14.09.04

We used to always order the small(RM19) serving for the 2 of us but it got too small for us recently, so medium’s just right for 2!

Directions: Exit City Square Johor Bahru from the office tower’s entrance and cross the traffic light to your left(you’ll be heading towards Hong Leong Bank) and then walk all the way straight for 2 steets, about 10 mins.

They are usually sold out by 3 plus even though official opening hours is till 430pm. The place’s quite small and there’s always a queue so be prepared to share table if you visit during lunch hour!

Well so why are we introducing it only now? Because we’ve recently found an alternative to Kam Long’s curry fish head, also 2 streets away from JB!

Munch @ Rise Buffet Restaurant Marina Bay Sands

IMG_20130205_203616Like all Singaporeans, we LOVE buffets, especially those with an international cuisine spread.

BUT Rise buffet prices aren’t particularly cheap with prices @ $30++ for high tea, $45++ for lunch, and $68++ for dinner so here’re the hits and not-so-hits for you to decide its worthiness.

You are highly recommended to make your reservations in advance as Rise buffet has always been popular with buffet lovers, especially with the opening of Gardens By The Bay.
